CNC Set-Up Technician

Job Summary:

The CNC Set-up Technician reports to the department supervisors and will aid machinists or set-up personnel in all departments with setting up machines, maintaining and cataloguing equipment storage and maintaining stocks of consumables.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Read and understand set-up sheets and assemble equipment:

  • Using the set-up sheet as a guide the set-up technician will assemble all the necessary hand tools, tooling and parts to start and complete the set-up.

Update set-up sheets and check for accuracy:

  • Working with the Supervisor or Group Leader, the technician will review the set-up sheets for accuracy and make corrections and updates as required. Prepare a machine for set-up
  • The technician will remove the existing set-up prior to start of the new set-up
  • He/she will remove any tools, chucks, wheels, mandrels, dies, punches, etc. to prepare the machine for the new set-up
  • He/she will also clean the area around the machine removing any debris, cuttings or chips from the machine and surrounding area

Assist the set-up personnel:

  • The set-up technician will assist set-up personnel, supervisors or group leaders by insuring all equipment required to start and complete the set-up have been brought to the machine to be set-up

Clean and store equipment:

  • After set-up is complete the technician will clean tools and equipment prior to storage. If any piece looks damaged he will arrange for it to be repaired and record what was repaired

Catalogue equipment:

  • The technician will maintain a catalogue of the location of set-up equipment throughout the shop

Check and update stock of consumables:

  • He/she will periodically review stocks of consumables such as inserts, drills, reams, flowturn wheels, etc. to insure the stocking levels are suitable for production

Additional duties as required:

  • The technician, when required by supervision or management, may be required to handle materials, run production, help keep the shop clean and orderly etc.
  • Qualified candidate should have excellent mechanical abilities, problem solving and computer skills, willingness to learn new skills, and attention to detail
  • Experience in setup of hydraulic presses, flowform machines or CNC machining centers a plus
